目の前に入試が鼻の前に迫っているが質問をするということは時間の無駄に過ぎなかった。 つまりシナゴンだけ真理であった。 シナゴンと解放使えば試験に出てくるだけ勉強する流行の言葉である。 つまり無駄に試験に出ない奇妙な質問は、言う必要がない世界であったような雰囲気だったような時代の学生だった。 なぜなら、極端な例を挙げるなら 「李舜臣将軍の誕生日は何が起こって？」 同じクイズ式質問が試験に出 「壬辰倭乱の現代的意味は何ですか？」 という物語式答えを要求する問題とか答えがいくつもの人々の視覚に応じて異なることがある問題は、出題をすることができないため、試験に出ないからである。 だから短答式に覚える学生に有利では決して以上で無駄な質問をする学生には不利な法であるためだろう。 今韓国の教育の弊害は、このような入居中心式詰め込み教育の弊害の延長線上にあることかもしれない。 さらに韓国の文化が多様な文化に進化して発展していない理由も、このような入試中心の多項選択式の教育にあるからかもしれない。 論理の飛躍だが、韓国の学生が徹夜入試勉強にしがみついて大学に行き博士号を取得して、教授がしますが、ノーベル賞の乗る素晴らしい学者が出てこない理由もこのような入試中心の教育のためだろう。 もう詰め込み入試教育と並行して質問して議論し、理解する討論式の教育も重要ハゴンマン入試のための議論式教育は韓国の地では外面を受ける。 私たちの先祖たちの過去の制度式勉強の延長線であることもあろうかと。 確かに残念な教育現実である。 至急改善する必要があろう。 また、空母は中学校に進学するということは、永遠に親しい近所の友達と兄と弟との永遠の別れを意味した。 중학교시절, 한국, 한국문화 소개 ,한국문학, 한국소설, , 하늘엄마 소설, , 인생이란 무엇인가?,

7장 6절 중학교 시절. 1970년대 초에 시작한 중학교 시절은 그래도 학창시절로써는 가장 열중한 학업시간이었다.. 평양에서 피난 내려온 큰 형으로부터 국민학교 졸업 후 그 해 겨울 방학부터 배운 영어 ABC abc는 호기심 덩어리 그 자체였으니까. 소문자 a는 병아리 같았고 b는 비누 방울 막대기 c는 부채 같은 모양으로 외국 문화의 정수 그 자체였다.. 그러나 그 영어가 평생 이렇게 한국인들의 심성과 영혼을 곤혹스럽게 할 줄은 꿈에도 몰랐지요. 중1 베스트 참고에서는 ‘영어는 웃고 들어가서 울고 나온다’ 라는 속담을 이야기해 주었지만 너무나 호기심이 많고 재미있었던 영어는 강 건너 불 같은 잠꼬대 같은 속담에 불과 했지요. 그 미소년의 마음 속에서는… 그러나 영어는 국제어이고 한반도는 반도 국가라 세계로 진출하지 않고는 경제적으로 많은 문제가 생기고 문화적으로는 문화적 갈증이 심각하여 해외 문화에 목말라 할 수밖에 없는 문명이었다. 한국 사회는 지정학적으로 역사적으로 안보적으로 미국과 해외를 짝사랑 할 수밖에 없는 구조였다… 그래서 죽으나 사나 한국인들은 영어에 처절하게 목을 멘다. 그 당시나 지금이나… 다행히 하늘 엄마는 영어에 대해 호기심과 관심이 하늘을 찌르고 대지를 덮었다. 워낙 어릴 적부터 동화 책이나 위인전 소설책들에 관심이 많았기에 남의 나라 언어에 애틋한 관심을 가지는 것은 당연한 수순일지도 모른다. 하늘이 어마 세대가 한문을 어릴 적부터 배운 세대이기 때문인지도 모른다. 특히 국민학교 시절부터 배워온 한문은 중국 문화에 익숙해지게 되었고 더 나아가서 한시에 대한 깊은 애정을 갖게 되었다. 그래도 여전히 중학교 시절은 하늘 엄마에게 가정 인상적으로 남아 있는 추억은 앉으면 영어 수학 공부를 해야만 했던 시간들이었다. 즉 명문 고등학교를 가기 위한 공부를 앉기만 하면 해야만 했던 강박 관념이 망령처럼 따라 다니는 그림자였기 때문이;리라.. 입시 당락의 열쇠는 영어와 수학에 있다고 선생님들은 힘주어 항상 이야기했고 오로지 영어 수학 강의 시간 위주로 시간들이 배정 되었고 과외 수업이나 학원 수업도 영어와 수학 위주로 진행 할 수 밖에 없는 것이 현실이었기 때문이다 지금 생각해 보면 어처구니 없는 교육 현실에 불과하지만… 그 덕분에 영어실력이 향상 되고 수학적 수리적 사고가 향상 되었는지도 모른다 . 그러나 다른 과목들은 반대 급부로 또 다른 병폐가 있었던 것도 부인 활수 없는 사실이 되었다 . 특히 현대 생활에 가장 밀접하게 접목 되어 있는 과학과목인 물리와 화학 생물은 공부를 집에 와서 하지 않아 거의 백지인 상태로 지나가야 만 했던 아쉬움이 남는다. 그래서 지금도 과학 지식에 대한 배경 지식이 부족하다 . 그러다 보니 일상생활에서 튀어 나오는 질문에 대해 거의 해답을 찾지 못해 답답하기만 하다 . 과학적 사고의 부재가 일상 생활을 과학과의 거리감을 두게 한다 한 예를 들어 보자. 지금도 하늘엄마는 물에 적신 수건이 증발하여 마르는 현상을 신기하게만 쳐다본다. 왜 수증기는 증발하는지 이해가 안 되고 실생활에서 발생하는 숱한 질문들이 과학적인 지식으로 이해되어야 하건만 과학적 배경 지식이 축적 되지 못하다 보니 그저 답답하고 막연하게만 지나가 버린다. 천문학 책 보기도 쉽지 않다. 천문학 교양 책들은 물리를 기본적으로 알고 있어야 이해 할 수 있는데 천문학에 아무리 관심이 있어도 천문학자들이 일반인들을 향해 하는 이야기들을 물리에 대한 배경지식이 약하면 이해할 수 없는 상황에 도달하게 된다. 영어 수학 교육에만 치우친 비정상적인 장애 교육이기 때문이리라. 하늘엄마가 다니는 중학교는 미아리 고개 너머에 있는 어느 조그마한 예술 대학교에서 운영하는 부속 중학교였다. 그 학교 정문에는 로댕의 ‘생각하는 로댕’이라는 조각상이 있었다. 한국의 중학교는 3년간을 다니는데 3년간 계속 그 조각상 ‘ 로댕의 생각하는 사람’을 만나 볼 수 있는 행운을 누리는 사치도 있었다. 지금도 근육적인 몸매의 남자가 벌거숭이인 채로 의자에 쭈그리고 앉아 깊이 사색하고 있는 듯 한 조각상 ‘생각하는 로댕’이 문뜩 문뜩 떠오르곤 한다. 인간은 생각하는 동물이다. 생각을 통하여 인류는 달나라 뿐만 아니라 태양계를 벗어나 은하에 도착했고 우리 은하계를 벗어나 다른 은하로 생각을 뻗쳐 나갔으며 다중우주로 까지 생각을 이어졌다. 인간만큼 생각이 많은 동물도 이 지구상에는 없으리라. 그러나 대한민국의 중고등 학교의 수업은 입시 위주의 교육이고 주입식 교육이기 때문에 질문을 하는 학생은 주위 학생들로부터 따가운 눈총 세례를 받아야만 했다. 질문을 하면 간첩이고 역적이었으니까... 눈앞에 입시가 코 앞에 다가 오고 있는데 질문을 한다는 것은 시간낭비에 불과했다. 즉 시나공 만이 진리였다. 시나공이란 풀어 쓰면 시험에 나오는 것만 공부한다는 시쳇말이다. 다시 말해서 쓸데없이 시험에 나오지 않는 이상한 질문은 말 할 필요가 없는 세상이었고 그런 분위기였고 그런 시대의 학생들이었다. 왜냐하면 극단적인 예를 든다면 “ 이순신장군의 생일은 몇 일인가?” 같은 퀴즈식 질문이 시험에 나오지 ‘임진왜란의 현대적 의미는 무엇인가?’라는 서술 식 대답을 요구하는 문제라든지 답이 얼마든지 사람의 시각에 따라 달라질 수 있는 문제는 출제를 할 수 없기 때문에 시험에 나오지 않기 때문이다. 그래서 단답식으로 외우는 학생들에게 유리하지 결코 이상하고 쓸데없는 질문을 하는 학생에게는 불리한 법이기 때문이리라. 지금도 한국 교육의 병폐는 이런 입주 위주 식 주입식 교육의 병폐의 연장선상에 있는 줄도 모른다. 더 나아가 한국 문화가 다양한 문화로 진화하고 발전하지 못하는 이유도 이런 입시위주의 사지선다형 교육에 있기 때문인지도 모른다. 논리의 비약이지만 한국 학생들이 밤을 새워 입시공부에 매달리지만 대학에 가고 박사학위를 취득하고 교수가 되지만 노벨상의 타는 훌륭한 학자가 나오지 않는 이유도 이러한 입시위주의 교육 때문이리라. 이젠 주입식 입시 교육과 병행해서 질문하고 토론하며 이해하는 토론식 교육도 중요하건만 입시 때문에 토론식 교육은 한국 땅에서는 외면을 받는다. 우리 조상들의 과거제도식 공부의 연장선일수도 있으리라. 참으로 안타까운 교육현실이다. 시급히 개선되어야 하리라. 또한 하늘엄마에게는 중학교에 진학 한다는 것은 영원히 친한 동네 친구들과 형과 동생들과의 영원한 이별을 의미하기도 했다 . 초등학교 때 까지만 해도 동네에서 골목축구를 하며 여유로운 시간을 즐길 수 있는 낭만이 있었지만 중학교에 다니고 부터는 오로지 입시 공부 때문에 방과 후에도 과외와 학원을 다니며 계속 공부만 해야 하는 분위기와 구조였다. 초등학교를 가기 위해서는 서울문리대 동네 좁은 골목길을 따라 가다가 혜화동 분수대 로타리를 지나가서 초등학교로 가게 되는 코스였다. 지금도 그 길은 아직도 젊은 시절의 낭만으로 추억 상자속에 고스란히 남아 있다. 지금은 혜화역 대학로 뒷길로 번화가가 되어 다 사라지고 없지만... 중1 때 작문시간으로 돌아가 본다. “ 선생님 철학이 뭐예요? ‘ 선생님은 조건 반사 식으로 대답을 해 준다 “철학이란 모든 학문의 기초가 되는 학문이다” “그럼 철학을 하면 모든 학문을 잘 할 수 있나요? 철학은 우리 삶속에 필요한 것인가요? 왜 그럼 우리는 철학을 배우지 않나요? “ 이런 질문들을 계속 작문 선생님께 물어 보고 싶었지만 시험에 나오지 않는 것을 물어 본다는 것은 시간 낭비였고 미친 짓이었다. 내 짝은 비틀즈 열광 팬이었다. 그 당시만 해도 나는 비틀즈가 누구인지도 몰랐고 팝송이 무엇인지도 모른 시절이었다. 하루는 그 친구가 내게 비틀즈 사진과 악보를 가지고 와서 보여주며 “ 이 사진이 비틀즈야 . 이 노래는 yesterday 와 let it be 야. 아주 재미있어 .너도 한번 들어봐.” “응 , 나도 언제 들어 볼게.” 그러나 비틀즈를 듣데 된 것은 오랜 시간이 지난 후였다. 그만큼 노래에 신경 쓸 만큼 하늘 엄마에겐 입시공부로 인해 여유와 낭만은 없는 편이었다. 그 덕분인지 중학교 성적은 항상 상위권에 있었고 가끔씩은 반에서 일등을 이루는 쾌거의 순간도 있었다. 그 당시에는 대체로 남선생님들이 담임을 맡았는데 우리 반만 담임선생님께서 병이 위독하여 대타로 여 선생님께서 맡게 되었는데 그 선생님은 학생들에게 일기를 쓰라고 숙제를 내주는 바람에 항상 일기를 써야 하는 곤혹스러운 상황과 마주치곤 했던 기억이 새롭다. 그 당시에는 지겨운 일기 쓰기 시간이었지만 지금은 초로의 백발에게는 더 없이 즐거운 추억의 한 장면으로 승화한다. 운동에서 우승을 해 본 팀은 우승할 때의 자신감을 평생 잊지 않고 지낸다는 이야기를 얼핏 들은 적이 있다. 그것처럼 하늘엄마에게도 일등 성적에 대한 기억은 어려움시절을 극복할 수 있는 에너지가 되고 원동력이 되었는지도 모른다. ‘나 역시 노력하면 결코 뒤지거나 지치지 않고 남들처럼 잘 할 수 있다.’라는 자신감의 상징으로 남았는지도 모른다. 가장 기억에 남은 시간은 역시 가장 힘들었던 과학 시간이었다. 과학은 도통 먼 나라 이야기처럼 들리곤 했다. 국어와 역사와 상업 시간은 스토리텔링시간으로 그렇게도 달콤한 이야기시간이었다면... 그래도 언젠간 한번은 과학 시험 때 만점을 받은 기억에 새롭게 떠오른다. 공부를 열심히 해서라기보다는 운이 좋아 잘 찍어서 100점을 받았으리라. 사지선다형 문제들이니까... 정답만 고르면 되는 문제니까... 학교를 졸업하고 사회에 나오면 ‘인생에 정답은 없다 ’라는 생각이 가끔씩 들곤 했다. 모범답안은 있을지 모르지만... 그 당시만 해도 누구나 명문 중고등학교를 가고 명문대를 진학해서 대기업에 취직하여 임원이 되어 정년퇴임 하거나 공무원이 되는 것이 일반적인 상식이었다. 물론 머리가 뛰어나게 좋으면 의대를 가서 의사가 되거나 법대를 가서 판검사가 되는 것이 일반적인 통념이었듯이... 질문을 계속 하다보면 이런 통념에 대해 반기를 들게 된다... 예를 들면 학교에서는 시험에 나오기 때문에 무조건 과목 내용을 외우라고 했다. 그래야 명문 중고등 학교에 가고 명문 대학에 가는 것이 지상낙원으로 들어가는 길이라고 협박했다. 그리고 주일 날 교회에 가면 무조건 믿으라고 윽박질렀다. 그래야 믿음으로 천국 갈수 있다고 가르쳤다. 지옥에 가면 영원한 불구덩이에서 산다고도 했다. 집에서는 부모님이 무조건 순종해야 한다고 가르치곤 했다. 그래야 효자가 될 수 있다고... 남자는 점잖아야 하고 까불면 안 된다고 가르쳤다. 그러나 하늘엄마는 천성적으로 자유분방하고 천방지축으로 날 뛰는 것을 좋아 했기에 그의 DNA가 모든 가르침에 복종 할 수 없는 성격이요 기질로 태어났다고 생각이 들기도 했다. 돌연변이도 있으니까... 학교와 교회와 집으로 이루어진 유년시절과 학창 시절은 완전히 나의 언어가 사라지고 그 당시의 문화 구조에 함몰 되어 개성이 박제된 로봇인간으로 거듭난다는 느낌이 들었다. 군대에 가면 싸우는 로봇 인간으로 거듭 태어나듯이... 돌이켜 회고하면 그때부터 하늘엄마는 내면적인 반항아로 문제아로 성장하기 시작했는지도 모르겠다. 왜냐하면 그의 부모님은 북한 공산당이 싫어 평양에서 남한으로 피난 내려 와야 했다. 그러나 평양의 대동강 물을 마시며 자란 분들이라 유전적인 토양적인 반골의 피가 흐르고 있는지도 모른다. 원래 평양이란 땅은 역사적으로 반항과 숭무정신이 흐르는 땅이기 때문이리라. 그 반골의 정신은 우리민족의 중용정신과 역설적으로 잇닿아 있는 듯하다. 우리 민족은 자고로 홍익인간정신을 바탕으로 단군왕검이 평양을 중심으로 나라를 세웠다는 설이 있다. 물론 고조선의 수도가 어디인지는 누구도 모르고 있지만... 그래서인지 우리민족의 정신은 화(和)의 정신이기도 하다. 화(和)란 사전적으로 ‘온화하고 화목하다’ 라는 뜻이다 즉 서로 사이좋게 지낸다는 뜻이기도 하다. 우리 민족은 예로부터 이렇게 싸우지 않고 널리 화목하게 지내는 것을 최고의 덕목으로 삼았다. 그것이 발전하여 충효(忠孝)의 정신이 된다. 이 정신이 길이 널리 온 세계로 펴져 나아가기를 하늘엄마는 바란다. 그러나 사물이란 양면이 있고 햇빛이 비추면 그늘이 짙게 드리우는 법. 원효와 황희 정승의 양시론이나 양비론이 우리 민족의 정신 속에 면면히 흘려 내려오는 정신이건만 현실은 꼭 그런 것만은 아니었다. 오로지 정답을 맞추어야하고 정답 속에서만 살아가야 하는 입시 사회구조가 우리 학생들을 단답형 인간으로 세뇌시켰다. 어처구니없게도... 누구나 다 공부를 잘해야 하고 누구나 다 대기업이나 공무원이 되어야 정상적인 길을 가고 있는 사람으로 인식되었고 그 외 일탈된 길을 가는 사람은 편견과 질시와 조롱에 시달리는 문화가 나타나기도 한다. 참으로 안타까운 현실이 흘러간다. 좀 더 우리나라도 미국처럼 이스라엘처럼 더 많은 스타트 업이 탄생되기를 기대해 본다. 자 그럼 다시 또 중 1때 작문 시간에 만든 문집의 내용들은 한번 여기에 적어 본다. 그 당시에 썼던 그대로의 모습 그대로 옮긴다. 낙엽 {개인문집} 하늘 중학교 1학년 10반 48번 하늘 엄마 머리말 훌륭한 책에는 진실이 남겨져 있습니다. 그러나 내가 만든 이 책은 훌륭한 책도 아니요 또한 재미있는 책도 아닙니다. 이 책을 만들다가 잘못된 글씨체를 쓸데면 종이를 찢어 버리고 싶은 마음이 한 두 번이 아니었습니다. 그러므로 이 책은 다소 틀린 곳과 문맥이 안 이어진 곳도 있을 것입니다. 이 책은 나의 마음의 등불이요 내 마음을 비추고 있으니만큼 나는 이 책을 정성껏 써야만 했던 것입니다. 내 생애 처음으로 내가 만든 이 책이 참다운 구실 해 주었으면 하는 마음 간절합니다. 지은이 씀 차례 1. 하얀 구름 하얀 마음.........................3 2. 부산에서...................................................4 3. 코스모스...................................................9 4. 나의 일기 .............................................10 5. 시 제목: 하얀 구름 하얀 마음 바람 소리 없는 푸른 잔디에 누워 샘물 같은 하늘을 바라봅니다. 한 아름 하얀 구름 여기 보다 저기에 더욱 아름다운 꽃송이 구름 하얀 내 마음에 하얀 구름이 내려오면 더욱 곱고 깨끗한 마음이 되겠지! 시 제목 :코스모스 가을 바람 산들 산들 부는 언덕에 홀로 피어 누구 하나 반겨줄 리 없는 한 송이의 코스모스 여기에도 저기에도 수북한 풀들 뿐 아! 코스모스는 외로워서 어떻게 지낼까? 나 라도 언덕에 올라 친구가 되어 서로 속삭이면 코스모스의 외로움을 덜어 주고 싶구나! 일기: 나의 일기 1970. 9월 17일. 지금은 숨 소리하나 들리지 않는 매우 고요한 이때 몇 자의 글자를 일기에 적어 본다. 오늘 아침에는 어찌나 비가 많이 오는지 학교에 가고 싶은 마음이 생기지 않았다. 며칠 남지 않은 시험 이 달 시험을 잘 보아야 할 텐데 하고 몇 번이고 걱정을 하지만 될 질 오늘도 이렇게 망설인다. 오늘은 국어공부를 했다. 내 생각 것에서는 단번에 해 치우고 싶었지만 겨우 3과 밖에 못 나갔다. 앞으로 2과를 더 나아가야 한다. 꼭...... 1970.9월18일 오늘 내가 잘못한 일이 있다. 뭐냐하면 종례시간에 떠든 아이 김철수를 적어 냈다. 나는 급해서 썼지만 생각해 보니 잘못을 했다. 다음 날 부터는 이런 잘못을 저지르지 않겠다. 오늘도 국어 공부를 했지만 완전히 못했다. 내일로 미루었다. 내일은 꼭 국어를 다 마치라고 다짐하고 싶다. 이달 시험을 잘 보기 위하여 한발 한발 나아가는 나에게 행운이 오기를 바라며...... 1970년 9월 22일 오늘은 시험 날이다. 내가 오늘 위해 공부를 했다. 그러나 자신이 없다. 학교에 가보니 아이들의 자리는 바꾸었는데 나의 자리는 바꾸지 않았다. 오늘 시험은 잘 본 것 같다. 특히 기술에서 끌에 대하여 공부를 못했는데 끌에 관하여 나오지 않았다. 참 기분이 좋았다. 하나님 한께서 감사를 표해야 겠다. 내 성적이 얼마나 나왔나? 잘 나왔으면 하는 마음 간절할 뿐... 1970년 9월 24일 내가 1등을 했다. 성적이 좋게 나왔다 기뻐야 할 내가 기쁘지 않다. 그러나 하나님께 감사를 해야겠다. 독후감: 나폴레옹 전을 읽고... 내가 나폴레옹을 선택한 것은 나팔레옹은 이 세계 3대 영웅 ( 나폴레옹,시이저, 징기스칸)에 속해 있음을 물론 한 때는 전 세계를 자기 손아귀에 집어넣으려는 야심도 있었다. 나도 나폴레옹과 같이 전 세계에 내 이름을 떨치고 싶다. 영웅은 되고 싶지 않지만……. 나폴레옹은 콜시카 섬(지중해상에 있는 섬)에 태어났다. 어머니는 참 부드러운 분이었지만 아버지는 무뚝뚝하고 무서운 분이었다. 나폴레옹은 부모 품에서 무럭무럭 자랐다. 나폴레옹은 소년이 되어 소년사관학교에 가게 되었다. 그때 시절의 사관학교는 귀족과 왕족이 다니는 곳이었다. 그러므로 나폴레옹은 평민이기 때문에 남으로부터 많은 비웃음을 받았다. 그러면서도 나폴레옹은 이것을 꾹 참고 책을 자기 친구로 벗 삼고 책에만 열중했다. 나도 여기에서 배울 점이 있다. 그것은 바로 독서다. 나는 책을 많이 읽지 않는다. 읽어야 한다고 생각은 되지만 마음으로만 나폴레옹은 사고로 인하여 콜시카 섬을 등지고 프랑스로 떠난다. 프랑스에 가서 나폴레옹은 피나는 노력으로 제독이 된다. 나폴레옹은 제독이 되어 여자와 결혼을 하게 된다. 그 나폴레옹 부인은 오스트리아의 왕녀로써 허영심이 많고 사치가 너무 심했다. 나폴레옹은 자기의 끔인 세계정복을 앞두고 유럽을 점령한다. 이탈리아를 점령할 때 나폴레옹은 누구도 넘지 못한다는 알프스 산을 넘어 이탈리아를 치게 된다. 그 때 나폴레옹은 ‘불가능이란 단어는 불란서 사전에는 찾아 볼 수 없다’라고 말했다. 그 얼마나 웅장하고 용감하였던가! 나도 이와 같은 말이 나올 정도의 나의 실력을 길러야겠다. 나폴레옹은 가는 곳마다 대승리를 했지만 영국만큼은 점령하지 못했다. 세월이 흘러 흘러……. 여기 까지만 적혀 있네요. 아쉽게도... 그래도 환갑 진갑을 다 보낸 나이에 40년이 지난 어릴 적 학창 시절 중1 문집을 바라본다는 것은 그지없는 삶의 회고이자 무한 경쟁 사회의 일탈이군요. 삶이란 이렇게 덧없이 흘러만 가는 흐르는 강물과 같이 떠도는 구름과 같이 흐르고만 있군요. 산 절로 수 절로 늙어가는 이 몸도 절로 절로처럼... 국파산하재처럼 말입니다.
